TV and radio broadcasts have a lot in common. Both are capable of beaming their signals to any part of the world and both are mediums of communication to large numbers of people.
But there are some features of a TV broadcast that set it aside from radio broadcasting, and this post aims to show them.

  1. Audio-visual medium
    Television provides both audio and visual contents and this feature sets it apart from radio broadcasting. This feature appeals to the sense of sight and sound and it helps to engage viewers. Images from a TV broadcast are capable of tempting, tantalizing and convincing viewers to take action and also evoke deeper emotion in them.
  2. Studio setup
    A TV studio is set up differently from a radio station studio. The studio for television production contains all the paraphernalia for sets, cameras, microphones, lighting, etc. It also includes the space where acting and performing takes place.
  3. Script
    A TV Script is written differently from a radio script. The availability of visuals creates all the difference between a TV and a radio script. The script for TV shows are most times divided into episodes, thereby forming a part of a larger narrative. And it has multiple character and story arcs than a radio script does.

    This is another distinct feature of a TV broadcast. While a TV programme is going on, viewers can get to see the latest information about games such as football matches, Olympics, etc. Match progress can be displayed at the lower corner of the screen without interrupting the ongoing programme viewers are watching.
  7. Clock
    A digital or audio clock can be displayed at the lower corner of a TV screen to tell the time. Viewers can get to know what the time says without moving their eyes from the screen. This is different from a radio broadcast because here, a programme anchor or radio DJ have to announce the time to listeners.
  8. News Ticker
    News Ticker is another interesting feature of TV broadcast. During a programme, a scroll bar at the bottom of the TV screen often displays breaking news as well as latest routine news. This helps to keep viewers updated about recent happenings in their locality and in the world at large.
  9. Slow motion
    Key moments during a TV broadcast can be replayed slowly for effect. Highlights of games or a climax point in a TV drama are most times repeated in a slow motion to create emphasis or evoke deeper emotions in the heart of viewers.
  10. Announcements
    The showing of announcements in the middle of a TV programme is a common and yet distinct feature of TV broadcasting.
